IRI Launches Tennis Program

Tennis has come to IRI under Sharon Simmonds’ leadership and vision.

This is a new experience for our individuals at IRI as well as for many of our staff. We are starting small and hope to grow it over time. IRI currently operates a golf club, a basketball league, and a bowling league among many other physical fitness activities.  We are strongly pursuing an approach to health and wellness that combines movement and nutrition under the operational control of Dr. Corrigan, Chief Operating Officer, and Noelia Mango, Director of Clinical Services and Data Analytics.

In addition, this initiative is consistent with our goal to promote Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and accessibility at IRI. Historically, disenfranchised and vulnerable people including people with developmental disabilities have had little or no access to sports like tennis. By offering adaptive tennis, IRI is helping our individuals to gain accessibility to a sport that has historically been elusive to them and thus, increasing their visibility in our communities while promoting our commitment to DEI.

Thank you again Ms. Simmonds!
