Gilbert Louis, Ed.D.

Executive Director

Dr. Gilbert Louis joined Innovative Resources for Independence (IRI) in May 2018. Prior to joining IRI, Dr. Louis held several clinical and administrative positions in the human services field. He worked at The Institutes of Applied Human Dynamics, Inc. (IAHD) for 28 years and spent the last 15 as its Associate Executive Director. Dr. Louis loves to teach and did so at St. Joseph’s College for over 20 years. He is currently on the faculty at Long Island University (LIU) where he teaches analytical methods in the Master in Public Administration and at St John Fisher College where he teaches doctoral-level research methods and statistics classes and serves on a number of doctoral committees.

Dr. Louis was the senior researcher who developed the training guide for care managers for people with IDD in New York State. Dr. Louis earned a Bachelor in Business, Management and Finance and a graduate degree in Psychology from Brooklyn College. He received his doctorate in education from St. John Fisher College.

Dr. Louis leads IRI more than 700 staff while fostering a culture of kindness, execution and accountability. IRI now serves hundreds of people with IDD in a variety of settings and support options to include residential programs, day habilitation, supported employment, crisis, outreach, community habilitation, and different types of respite. Under his leadership IRI has grown to annual revenues of $42MM with a niche and specialty in supporting people with complex behavioral needs in partnerships with families and siblings.


Elizabeth Corrigan, Ph.D.

Chief Operating Officer

Dr. Corrigan joined IRI in September 2018 as Chief Operating Officer. Within a short time, Dr. Corrigan has modernized all major systems and administrative protocols which govern the agency operations. She is leading our management training program; essential for long term sustainability. Prior to IRI, Dr. Corrigan served as Director of Adult Day Services at the Institutes of Applied Human Dynamics, Inc. (IAHD) for 25 years. Dr. Corrigan also served as the Research Director at Meaningful NY.

Dr. Corrigan earned a BA and Higher Diploma in Education from University College, Cork, Ireland. She has a Master’s of Science Degree in Education (Counseling and Personnel Services) from Fordham University, New York City. Dr. Corrigan completed her internship at the Early Intervention Evaluation Center at New York State Institute for Basic Research in Developmental Disabilities before earning a PhD from New York University (NYU) in counseling psychology. Dr. Corrigan is a licensed psychologist with expert knowledge in managing complex systems and clinical best practices supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).


Todd Pinkus, MPA, MA

Chief Financial Officer

Todd Pinkus joined IRI in July 2018 as Chief Financial Officer. Prior to joining IRI, Todd was Executive Director of Meaningful NY (MNY), an agency in the OPWDD system providing Community Habilitation, Fiscal Intermediary services, employment opportunities, and other supports to over to two hundred individuals with IDD. He was at MNY for 7 years. Todd also worked with the Maryland Department of Health & Mental Hygiene and the Department of Aging, with the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) to improve their systems and processes for investigating medicaid fraud and overpayments. He was also at the New York Integrated Network (NYIN) for people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities where he held the position of Director of Operations.

Todd earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Texas, a master's in Aging and Long Term Care from the University of Southern California (USC), and a Master of Public Administration from NYU.


Susan McGrath

Chief Corporate Compliance Officer and Director of Quality Assurance

Susan joined IRI in September 2018 as Director of Quality Assurance and Chief Corporate Compliance Officer. Prior to joining IRI, Susan served as the Director of Quality Assurance and Chief Corporate Compliance Officer at the institutes of Applied Human Dynamics, Inc. (IAHD). Susan also held other leadership positions at IAHD including Director of Social and Family services and Director of Clinical Services. Susan has 23 years of experience supporting people with IDD.

Susan received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Queens College (CUNY).


Noelia Mango

Director of Clinical Services

Noelia joined IRI in June 2018 as Director of Clinical Services and has transformed the way clinical services are delivered at IRI with a new focus on outcomes and effectiveness. Prior to IRI, Noelia served as Quality Improvement Consultant and Policy Analyst at Meaningful New York; an agency supporting people with IDD. Noelia previously held various positions such as Compliance specialist, Director of Operations and Director of Quality Assurance at two other not for profit agencies (IAHD and Edwin Gould).

Noelia earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from Penn State University and a Master's Degree in Business Administration from Iona College with a dual concentration in Health Services and Finance. Noelia is fluent in Spanish.


Ana Koessler

Chief Administrative Officer

Ana joined IRI on December 1, 2018 as Director of Social Services and Community Engagement. Prior to joining IRI, Ana served as the Director of Social and Family Services at IAHD after having administered a Day Habilitation program system supporting 130 people with complex behavior and medical needs as well as a Sunday Family Support program supporting children, teenagers and their siblings. Ana is responsible for intake, entitlements, benefits management, family reimbursement, building and maintenance, and transportation. Ana has been supporting people with IDD for over 20 years.

Ana graduated from Mercy College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology and holds a Master's Degree in Social Work from Hunter College (CUNY). Ana is fluent in Spanish.


Lina Saray

Director of Human Resources

Lina joined IRI in August 2015 as Director of Human Resources. Prior to joining IRI, Lina held various management positions at YAI, a large network of non-profit agencies that provide services to people with developmental disabilities. Lina has expert knowledge of Talent Recruitment and Management, Employee Relations, Employee Benefits, Organization Development, Compensation Design, and HR Compliance.

Lina earned a Bachelor of Science degree in International Relations and Economics from Seton Hall University and a Master's Degree in Business Administration from Baruch College. Lina is fluent in Spanish.

Proloquo 2

What is it? A fully customizable communication application that interfaces with smart phones and tablets. The app is programmed with picture/icon representations of words and common phrases that the user can string together to communicate a thought.

How does it help? This is an indispensable communication aid for non-verbal individuals

Telehealth Services

How does it work? Individuals can have their vital signs taken right in their homes. The information is digitally recorded providing personalized biometrics that help detect medical conditions earlier based on trended data. This service also provides virtual intervention between nurses and individuals using a smart tablet.

How does it help? Medical staff is more knowledgeable about patients’ care in between visits. These services also greatly reduce hospitalizations therefore also reducing the number of disruptions for individuals in their homes.

Pulseox Monitor

How does it work? Remotely monitors oxygen levels of individuals with respiratory issues. Allows nurse to monitor the oxygen level remotely.

How does it help? Helps to remotely monitor blood oxygen levels and send an alert to the nurse if levels are imbalanced.

GPS Watch

How does it work? Individuals can travel safely and unsupervised. Individuals simply wear the watch that communicates to an app used by IRI staff.

How does it help? This technology prevents individuals from getting lost. Staff can also see where individuals are without having to be there in person.

Home Sensor Technology

How does it work? A suite of interactive sensors is outfitted on kitchen appliances and above doors. If an individual, living in their own apartment, turns the stove on, then exits the kitchen, IRI will get an alert. If the individual leaves the house at an unusual time, we will also be alerted.

How does it help? This provides un-invasive oversight. Individuals can live independently with confidence. It also reduces the need for in-person staffing.

Medication Wheel

How does it work? This simple device alerts individuals when a medication dose is due, then opens to dispense medication. If the medication is not taken or the wheel is not closed properly, IRI will be alerted.

How does it help? For those individuals living in apartments or homes, they can now take medication without staff intervention.

How does it work? There are many existing applications, and new ones being developed every day that are targeted to assist disabled individuals in enhancing their abilities

How does it help? Allows us to use a variety of online applications that support the abilities of the users

How does it work? Wirelessly controls lighting and other devices through voice commands.

How does it help? Helps individuals who are otherwise unable to manually operate devices to do so independently.

Pressure Pads in Beds

How does it work? Allows the staff to monitor bed time routines when people are in and out of bed with a remote monitor; a notification goes to remote staff person when a person has gone to bed and if they get up during the night for an extended period of time.

How does it help? Helps ensure safety by sending staff an alert when an individual is out of bed during the night.

    2019 DSP Appreciation Week

    IRI's commitment to being a preferred employer begins by appreciating our team members for their dedication and tireless efforts in ensuring that people with intellectual and developmental disabilities live the best lives that they are able with whatever supports are needed. These supports begin and end with our Direct Support Professionals without whom we could not achieve our mission and goals. We thank these team members who are the backbone of IRI and appreciate them for what they do every day. But this month we (the board of directors at IRI and the leadership team) took special care to celebrate the accomplishments and contributions of our DSPs with a series of events throughout the week of September 8-14. Our DSPs were invited to participate in special breakfasts, relaxation massages, raffles and our grand DSP recognition event. We specially celebrated 16 people whose work anniversary with IRI ranged between 27 years and 15 years by having an incredible extravaganza where all our Direct Support Staff were truly the stars. We laughed, we ate, we danced and played games; and had a good time with each other. Again, thank you for all you do every day. We are proud to be your team members.
